TALBOT9925

Bath – 9th December

My dear Papa,

We were really concerned at Charles having so shockingly wet an afternoon for his walk home yesterday, but apparently he survived it, as I got a telegram from him, from Devizes yes this morning, to say he will be here to sleep tonight – what a fearful hurricane it was last night!, – we thought our windows wouldn’t hold out against it, and the newspapers today are full of disasters. I think I shall come over to Lacock the morning of the day you intend leaving; and return here with you; so if you should alter your day please let me know, and also whether you intend going by Corsham or Chippenham, that I may know whether to take a return ticket or not. My business will only take about a couple of hours or so, and should it be wet, and I fail to turn up by the morning train, you will know that I am not to be expected.

There was a longer article, on the Chaldean deluge, in the Daily News than the Times; we have kept it for you. Mr Menteath is much excited and wants to talk to you about it.

I am just going out to a tea party, so good bye,

Your affectionate daughter
Rosamond
