Faraday to Thomas Winkworth1   23 October 1817

My Dear Sir

As I find from experience that the want of attraction on Saturday nights prevents me from having oral communication with you I have at last resorted to this more ceremonious and of course less pleasant form and I am still more induced to the adoption of this plan in consequence of a message from you through Magrath to me[.]

The only excuses I have for my inattention to your wishes are my attendance of your presence at the Institution and the insignificance of our school[.] Our school hour commences at 8 oclk and I generally go to Magraths about half an hour before that time[.] If therefore you still feel inclined to go I shall be happy to meet you in Wood Street at that time on the next or any other Monday eveg. Next Thursday2 the scholars will attempt a number of pieces and they generally make more efforts on those which are called extra nights than at other times. Perhaps also you may find a little interest in it[.] If no let me or Magrath know[.]

Yours Sincerely | M. Faraday
