I have received your letter announcing the formation of a new Club2, under the auspices of the Presidents of the Royal & Antiquarian Societies3, to be composed of noblemen & gentlemen Patrons of the Arts &c, - & of the Members of Scientific and Literary Institutions.

I presume your letter was addressed to me as Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Lord Aberdeen had the goodness to tell me he would put my name on the List of Members, and I have only now to state to you, for the information of the committee, that I shall have great satisfaction in becoming a Member of the Club4.

That is the Athenaeum.
Humphry Davy and George Hamilton Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen (1784–1860, ODNB). Tory politician and President of the Society of Antiquaries, 1812–1846.
Bidwell is listed as an original member of the Athenaeum in Waugh [1894], 12.
