Faraday to Davies Gilbert1   12 August 1824

Royal Institution | Aug. 12, 1824

Sir

I understand that Mr. Hopkinson2 is desirous of seconding Mr. Goldsmids3 name as a member of the Athenaeum from understanding that you had proposed it; but that I have left no document by which it appears that you ever proposed Mr. Goldsmid. As I am sure you did propose it although it has not been noted down I thought you would like to know the circumstances that you might if you saw fit again put the name before the Committee[.] Mr Hopkinson says that Mr Goldsmid is the author of papers on circulation &c and Mr. G. had also mentioned them to me[.]

I am Sir | Your obliged & faithful Servant | M. Faraday
