Dear Sir
Your kindness to me shewn merely upon heresay [sic] from one of your friends that I should like to have some of your Cadmium deserved a quicker acknowledgement from me but I have been in hopes of writing to you by a friend[.] I must not however delay longer returning you my best thanks for your kindness and to say how much I shall be gratified in referring to the specimen[.]
I hope an opportunity will occur when I shall be able to return my thanks in a manner or by something more philosophical than a letter & therefore more in accordance with your favour[.]
I am dear Sir | Your Obliged Servant | M. Faraday
W. Herapath Esq | &c &c
I hope my letter will find you[.]
