Faraday to Christopher Haedy1   12 June 1830

Royal Institution | June 12, 1830.

Sir

Close occupation prevented me from immediately answering your letter - I looked for you in the Market this morning about the conservatories but could not find you[.]

I have no doubt you will have good water & plenty if you go deep enough and I should expect it would not be more than you mention 200 or 300 feet[.] After being once obtained too I believe there is no fear of its failing – except indeed from sand or other substances getting into the pipes. This circumstance sometimes embarrasses the passage but I presume you will provide the proper & usual means of easily getting clear of this impediment.

You may put a good deal of confidence in trials made at neighbouring situations but no positive conclusion can be come to as to depth because of the numerous irregularities that occur in recent strata even within small distances2[.]

I am Sir | Your Obedient Servant | M. Faraday

Chris. Haedy Esq | &c &c
