My dear Sir

The substance is not of Animal or vegetable origin[.] Nor does it contain any organic matter[.]

It is a ferruginous sandy clay and may either have been natural or clay & sand purposely mixed together there is nothing to decide which. It contains no calcareous matter. The iron is present in great abundance[.]
