My dear Sir

I have a particular engagement for Friday evening, which will not permit me to hear the lecture of my friend Mr. Cowper2, at the Royal Institution3. This I very much regret.

The ticket which you gave me I here return, that another may enjoy the Instruction which I cannot receive.
