Faraday to John Britton1   10 February 1836

Royal Institution | Feby 10th 1836

Dear Sir

I am much obliged by the copy of the note. As I mentioned to you in the Philosophical Transactions for 1739 at page 59 is a letter by the Revd Dr. Clayton2 on the occurrence of fire damp in a ditch and an experiment which he made in consequence on the spirit of coal3. It is the earliest artificial coal gas light I know of[.]

I have not your autographs[.]

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday
