Faraday to John Gage   22 January 18381

Royal Institution | 22 Jany 1837 [sic]

My dear Sir

I have made the best examination I can of your treasure trespassing in the least possible degree upon it[.] The body of the mirror is bronze - the reflecting face is not silver - it contains tin & I think no antimony. The reflecting surface is very thin so that the removal of the least portion shews the bronze beneath. I believe the mirror to consist of a bronze body with a tinned reflecting surface[.]

Ever Very Truly Yours | M. Faraday

John Gage | &c &c &c

Dated on the basis that Gage (1838), which mentions this analysis by Faraday on p.360, is dated 1 February 1838.
