Dear Sir James,
I have examined the green matter of the water & there are two or three points which seem to refer it to an animal origin.
In the first place in putrifying it evolves Sulphuretted hydrogen[.]
When heated it blackens & fuzes like animal matter & evolves ammonia[.]
With potash its acts as if it were of an albuminous nature[.]
As to the shape motion &c &c of the filaments all these points are fully referred to in Dr. Grants letter1[.]
