I have received your book. I do not wait to read it but write at once in reply to its affection which is to me of far more value than all its philosophy1. I know well the sincerity of your words and you will believe me too when I say that to have gained & retained the kindly feelings of your heart is to me matter of great self congratulation. I have nothing more to say on this point than that I hope our mutual feelings may long be preserved to us to be what they are at present a constant source of unalloyed pleasure to both[.]
