Faraday to James Orchard Halliwell   12 March 18401

R Institution | 12 March 1840

Sir

I am much obliged by your letter. As to the Society2 I think its object excellent & should be very glad to support it but am really limited by expence[.] The number to which I am obliged to belong is a serious draught on an income which from ill health I am obliged to diminish. If you think the annual expence will not go beyond a guinea I shall be happy to give you my name. In that case, who shall I pay the money to?

I am Sir | Your obliged obedient servant | M. Faraday

J.O. Halliwell Esq | &c &c &c

James Orchard Halliwell (1820-1889, DNB). Shakespearian scholar.
