Roderick Impey Murchison to Faraday   1 October 1842

16 Belgrave Square | Oct 1, 1842

My dear Sir

I send you herewith a blade of the best damask steel manufactured by General Anosoff1 at Zlatoust in the Ural mountains, & which he begs to send to you as a proof of his admiration of your discoveries & of the value of your researches.

He sends me at the same time another sabre & a large carving knife & fork; the latter being now more useful to me than the former.

If you are home will you send today 2 or 3 lines addressed to General Anosoff thanking him for his present, as my friend and fellow Labourer in these distant parts the Count Keyserling2 sails tomorrow for Petersburg & will take my letters & enclosures[.]

Most truly Yours | Rod I. Murchison

P. Anossoff. According to Hadfield (1931), 257, Anossoff was Director of the Zlatoust Steel Works.
Alexandr Andreevich Keyserling (1815-1891, DSB). Russian naturalist.
