My dear Sir

I have this instant returned from the Country & catch a moment to thank you for your letter1 & the hopes it gives of our poss[ess]ing at last something definite about force, retention &c of magnets[.]

With respect to Knights magnet I have only mentioned it once in my first series of Experimental researches Paragraph 44, Phil Trans 1831 [sic]2.
