John Frederick William Herschel to Faraday   c.28 March 18461

My dear Faraday

Never was regret greater than mine at finding myself precluded from coming up to witness your beautiful experiments by a country engagement which I cannot put off however earnestly I should desire it[.]

With many thanks for your invitation | believe me | Yours very truly | (Signed) J.F.W.H.

Dated on the basis that this was the reply to Faraday to Herschel, 27 March 1846, letter 1854, volume 2.
