Faraday to Charles Manby   2 July 18471

R Institution | 2 July 1847

My dear Manby

I am afraid the Institution of C.E. will get into discredit with us. The air pump we lent you was to have been returned at once & is not yet come back. The Davy lamps that we lent you some time ago we had after a long while to fetch2. I forget the name of the Party who had away the pump but stir him up to finish by returning it[.]

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday

C. Manby Esq | &c &c &c

This letter is black-edged.
The Davy lamp was discussed at the Institution of Civil Engineers in March 1847. Richardson (1847), 166.
