Sir,

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request that you will, in conjunction with Lieut Colonel Irvine2, the Director of Engineering & Architectural Works at Somerset House, report upon the working of Mr Gamble's3 Electro Magnetic Telegraph upon the Great Western Railway4.

Probably Douglas Pitt Gamble, holder of patent 11,524, dated 11 January 1847, on "Electric-telegraphs". Otherwise unidentified.
