I dare not trust my head in rough waters - therefore can you tell me the best & shortest way (in time) by Land to Swansea1 - or tell me where to enquire about it. I wish to be at Swansea the first week but must return to London on the Saturday2[.]

For the meeting of the British Association. Faraday took part, on 11 August 1848, in the discussion of Plücker's work. In this Faraday illustrated some of the diamagnetic phenomena discovered by Plücker by use of potatoes and a quill. See Athenaeum,19 August 1848, pp.835-6.
