R Institution | 3 Novr. 1852

My dear Mrs. Barlow

A Proxy which I had mentally assigned to you & Lady Shelley1 (you are both I think in the same case) has been lost but the enclosed paper has been sent to me as a substitute and will serve instead2[.]

Ever Yours | M. Faraday

Jane Shelley, olim St John, née Gibson (d.1899, age 79, GRO, B6 under Percy Florence Shelley). Writer and editor of the works of Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822, DNB), poet.
Neither Barlow nor Shelley are listed as subscribers to the London Orphan Asylum on which see note 1, letter 2173.
