Faraday to Thomas Newborn Robert Morson   7 April 18531

Royal Institution | 7 April 1853

My dear Morson

I need for my lecture on Saturday2 some films or sheets of Collodion[.] I once had some about the size of my hand & cannot tell where I should go for them[.] Have you such a thing or can you tell me where I can get them? They were quite transparent & very electric and it is to illustrate that point that I want them i.e. one or two such sheets[.]

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday

That is 9 April 1853 when Faraday delivered his first lecture of his course of six lectures on static electricity. Faraday’s reference to the use of collodion in this lecture is in his notes, RI MS F4 J15, p.1.
