Jacob Herbert to Faraday   13 April 1854

Trinity House, London, | 13th April, 1854.

Sir,

Letters, of which the enclosed are Copies1, having been laid before the Board, I have been directed to acquaint you with their Contents, and to signify the request of the Elder Brethren that you will attend to any Communication which the Chevalier Wm Hähner2, may make to you either personally or in writing, consequent upon the Board’s having referred him to you on the subject of the Electric Light, which he represents he has “newly invented,” - and which he considers applicable to the Illumination of Light Houses3.

I enclose also a Copy of my Letter to the Chevalier4, and beg to add the request of the Board to be favored with any observations you may think right to offer in relation to his project, after he has communicated with you thereon.
