Faraday to Mary Fox1   29 May 1854

R Institution | 29 May 1854

My dear Lady Fox

Many thanks for your kind invitation on the part of myself & my wife. As your note asks for an answer I am obliged to say that we cannot come. The little liberty we have allowed ourselves at Mr. Barlows & another place has lead our kind friends to suppose our rules are altered & has so rapidly increased invitations that I am continually embarrassed in saying no. So pray excuse us[.]

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday

Mary Fox, née Brookhouse (d.1879, age 70, GRO). Married the civil engineer Charles Fox (1810–1874, ODNB) in 1830. See his ODNB entry.
