Edward Sabine to Faraday   4 December 1854

Royal Society, | Somerset House, | Decr 4th 1854

Dear Faraday,

I return Mr: Bate’s letters as the affair is now at an end1. The Govt applied to the R.S. for an opinion upon Mr. Bate’s claims as stated by himself to the Treasury. The R.S. submitted the subject to a Committee consisting of Mr: Tite2, Mr Grove and the Treasurer3; the two former being men of business accustomed to consider such matters - & their report was sent to the Treasury. As regards the Royal Society therefore the subject is closed. What reply the Treasury have made to Mr. Bate I have not heard[.]

Sincerely your’s, | (signed) Edward Sabine.

See letter 2922 and note 3.
William Tite (1798-1873, DNB). Architect.
That is Sabine.
