Faraday to John Tyndall, Edward Frankland, John Barlow and Henry Bence Jones   16 January 1855

Various philosophical notes of experimental investigation on foolscap paper, paged in series & partly bound in five volumes1,- a quarto MS. book of Philosophical notes2,- a second larger quarto of similar notes3,- some of my printed papers collected in two bound volumes & illustrated by letters &c, - the one quarto4 the other 8vo5, and a bound copy of Davy’s chemical elements6, being a copy of that which, whilst abroad in 1814-5, he prepared for a second edition, (which was never published);- these I offer for the Library of the Royal Institution, if the Managers should think them worth a place:- if not to remain at the disposal of my executors[.]

Whatever my wife may think fit to give, from among my personal things, to relatives or friends as remembrances, will I hope be accepted as from both of us. We were always as one, and whatever she may do is what I should do.

I desire that, at my death, all cases in which I have become security should be put an end to, that they may not be continued over my wife. I only remember one, namely, for Mr. Geo Whitelaw to Messrs Spottiswoods7.

M Faraday.
