Faraday to James Gray   16 April 18561

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | 16 April 1856

My dear Sir

I am very grateful for your kind remembrance of me and your liberal hospitality offered to me for the August meeting2. I am unable to accept your kindness for if I go to Cheltenham (which is very uncertain) I am under engagement with a friend which would make our arrangement depend very greatly upon each other[.]

With sincerest thanks | I am My dear Sir | Yours Most truly | M. Faraday
