Faraday to George Herbert   25 August 1860

Royal Institution | 25 Aug 1860

Sir

As far as I am concerned it is not necessary for the Honorable Major Fitzmaurice to shew any more experiments or preliminary arrangements prior to the serious and full trial of his method at a lighthouse1 to which the Trinity letter of the 8th2 and my letter of the 18 instant referred3. They cannot in any way supply the place of that proof; or give the information & evidence required; or shew any thing that must not be shewn again at that trial - As far as I can perceive they would only consume time & distract attention. Nevertheless there can be no objection to them but unless there be some new point introduced which has not as yet been brought under my consideration I should not think it necessary that I should see them[.]

I am Sir | Your Very Obedient humble Servant | M. Faraday

Geo Herbert Esq | &c &c &c
