Faraday to George Biddell Airy   16 January 1861

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | 16 January 1861

My dear Sir

Mr Barlow having resigned his position as Honorary Secretary, Dr. Bence Jones has been elected into his place. To him therefore has passed the hopes that he might count you on the future Friday Evening list, but he is half afraid to ask you about the probalities [sic] - and so I have undertaken to say may we still hope - and in that case would the 26th April suit you - or next the 10th or 17th of May - or later. His wish to enable others to choose amongst the Evenings you do not take makes me ask the question in this shape1[.]

Ever Truly Yours | M. Faraday

Airy did not deliver a Friday Evening Discourse during 1861.
