Richard Bentley1 to Faraday   23 February 1861

Professor Faraday

New Burlington Street, W. | Feby 23, 1861.

Dear Sir,

I had the pleasure some time ago to address you on the subject of your Lectures at the Royal Institution2, when you told me that you had no objection to my publishing reports of these lectures. This, however, is not in accordance with my mode of business, & I should much prefer such an arrangement as should provide for a fair remuneration to the Author. If you could find leisure to give the public a volume of Popular Science forming from 400 to 500 pages, I should be happy to place at your disposal for the copyright of such a work the sum of Two Hundred & Fifty Pounds[.]

Most faithfully yours | (Sd) Richard Bentley
