Sir

The five samples of white lead which you sent me1 have the following composition

The impurities of 1. 3. 5. are small in quantity & no doubt accidental. Those in 2 & 4 are larger in proportion though not equal to 1 per cent. But they consist chiefly of sulphate of baryta or heavy earth which I suppose has crept in from the mill3.
