George Herbert to Faraday   4 September 1861

Trinity House, London, E.C. | 4th September, 1861.

Sir,

I am directed by the Elder Brethren to inform you that the Lime Light is now being exhibited from the South Foreland High Light House and that the reports received from the Light Keeper are of a favorable character, and which I shall have pleasure in forwarding to you should you desire to see them. I am also to prefer the request of the Elder Brethren that you will advise them as to the precise character of the observations which you think it desirable should be made in respect of this Light both by the Light Keepers and other observers, in like manner as was done in the case of the Electric Light, Copies of the Forms used for which purpose I enclose1.

I am to add that the Elder Brethren would be glad to be informed when it will suit your arrangements to accompany a Committee to inspect this Lighting Apparatus and to view the Light.

I am, | Sir, | Your most humble servant, | George Herbert | Assistant Secy

Professor Faraday | &c &c &c
