Faraday to Henry Bence Jones   29 November 1861

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | 29, Novr. 1861.

My Dear Dr. Bence Jones

You know my feelings in regard to the exceedingly kind manner in which the Board of Managers received my letter of the 11th October1, and you therefore can best convey to them my deep thanks on the occasion. Please, do this for me. Nothing would make me happier, in the things of this life, than to make some scientific discovery or development, and by that to justify the board in their desire to retain me in my position here.

Ever | My dear Bence Jones | Yours faithfully | M. Faraday2

This letter was read at RI MM, 2 December 1861, 11: 403. They accepted Faraday’s resignation from the Christmas lectures, but retained him in his other positions.
