I have the honor to acknowledge your great kindness in inviting me to your table on the 9th of next month and regret much that I cannot enjoy the privilege. But I must both leave London & return to it on that day making much exertion here to receive that honor of a degree which His Grace The Chancellor1 & I believe yourself purpose bestowing on me. I wish I were more worthy of your kindness and the distinction[.]
