William Pigott to Faraday   22 August 1862

My dear Faraday

The tenders for the apparatus at the Hunstanton are in and I am sorry to say, that as Chance demands £735 - for the same work that Wilkins offers to execute for sure £524 - nothing remains for us but to recommend the acceptance of Messr Wilkins - accompanying our letter to the B of Trinity the observations you deem relative to the position taken by Messr Chance - I cannot understand such a difference but the object of this is to know if you will advise as to the foci to be submitted - a lamp of the 2nd order has been ordered of Messrs Wilkins on the system improved by Cap Nesbit [sic] -

I shall be here on Monday -

Yours truly | W. Pigott
