Faraday to B. Bell   27 August 1862

Private

The Green | Hampton Court1 | 27. August 62

Sir

I am very much obliged to you for your kindness in sending me the note regarding Lord Melbourne & my pension2[.] I cannot assent to its publication. Lord Melbourne wrote to me & behaved very handsomely in the matter and if one part of the affair were published I think the other ought to be also. But it was the desire of the Minister & his friends that no notice should be taken of the affair and therefore I did not consent then (& cannot now) to any partial publication of the circumstances[.]

I am Sir | Your Very Obedient Servant | M. Faraday

B. Bell Esqr | &c &c &c
