Faraday to William Pigott   23 February 1863

23 Feby 18631 | Royal Institution

Dear Sir

I send you back the various papers of the permanent lime light company. The last letter takes up altogether a new position of the light - & sends a very imperfect drawing showing no arrangement of the place of Gas jets and no means of sending the rays parallel[.] It speaks of a model but not of a full sized or practical apparatus.

I can simply refer you back to my letter of the 27th of August of last year2. But even before the liberty of trying the lime light under the conditions there stated could be granted I think that a full sized first order lamp should be shewn in London sustained in an effectual burning condition & in a large place for 14 or 16 hours together. As the first order Fresnel lamp with a first order panel before it could be placed up about 20 or 30 feet from it side by side to a very useful comparison of the one with the other though adverse to the Fresnel could be made3.

I am Dear Sir | Your Most faithful Servant | M. Faraday

Captn. Pigott | Deputy Master | &c &c &c
