Faraday to Cecilia Anne Barlow   25 September 1863

The Green | Hampton Court | 25 Septr. 1863.

My dear Mrs. Barlow

I write to you because both your hand writing & your words are very pleasant to me & because I have just come upon both. In fact on Wednesday1 I knocked at your door so that you perceive thoughts of you have been flying across my mind. In writing to you I also write to Mr. Barlow for I know you two to be one in very many things & in the manner that I & my dear wife are one.

I think I have been to Scotland for three weeks since I received your note but I cannot recall the date or the events except that my visit was to friends only - not to objects or association & I did not take Newcastle2 in my way. I had a very kind reception amongst my friends & saw something of the beauties down the Clyde. Jeannie was there also, longer than myself, & saw much more. Home & quietness suit me best now[.]

Our Scientific friends about are I think pretty well just now[.] The Moores have a house at Esher one that belongs to Mr Wills3 who has gone to the house that he built in the Alps among the glaciers. Tyndall & Frankland are very well & were here last night. Dr. Bence Jones is at Folkstone & there is the end of my list - Huxley has been very poorly & low & Tyndall has been leading him a health excursion through the English lakes. He still keeps low[;] I believe the death of his brother4 affects him but I do not know how - or the circumstances. My dear Wife and Jeannie too (who has just been in) desire me to give their kind love to you. I ought to do it very heartily meaning to do it truly

Ever Affectionately Yours | (to you both) | M. Faraday
