My dear Sir,

I am directed by the Deputy Master1 to forward to you the enclosed Letter2 from J Chad in further reference to his Lamp for an Electric Light, and to enable you to understand his Allusion to the Galvanic Battery, I enclose the Draught of my reply to his previous Letter, founded, as you will see, on your report3.

The Deputy Master will be glad if you will say whether you think Chad should be allow’d an interview, or if any good will, in your opinion, result from his coming to London, and if you think there may, that you will say what day early next month it would suit you to meet him here[.]
