Dear Sir

I received your letter2 this morning & have sent it with mine3 to the Deputy Master4 of the Trinity House. I may not properly give you my opinion of the apparatus save through the T. House, but have not the least objection to your hearing it from thence but I may say to you in private that I approve as far as one can from a judgment at the apparatus & in a house & recommend it for practical trial on the sea shore & among seamen. I refer them to your letter and what you say of such a trial for four years at the New London Lighthouse, and the printed evidence you produce[.]

I am Dear Sir | Very truly yours | M. Faraday

Apart from the top and the signature, this is not in Faraday’s hand.
William Pigott.
