William Pigott to Faraday   4 November 1863

T House Nov 4 / 63

My dear Faraday

I forward a sketch of the terms on which Mr Wilkins apparatus will be accepted as also the papers sent you before in order that you may say if those terms are justifiable and whether it would be desirable to furnish the diagram alluded to in the parts underlined, or to furnish that when we make the requisition for any changes - in that case omitting the underlined paragraph - you will retain the report of course[.]

I also wish to know your plans as to quitting Town - Mr Daboll is now putting up his Fog horn at Dungeness - it is rather uncertain when he will state he is prepared for a hearing - in the interim we are preparing to have a gun placed to be tested at the same place & time as also a steam whistle - these affairs with Holmes’ fog horn and the Bell will make a row at any rate if heard together - these arrangements are made in the usual Trinity House manner irrespective of the Fog Sound Committee affair and of course you will have a place offered in the yacht and shall be advised of the time the concert comes off - we should also invite Sullivan for the B of T[.]

The detail as to when the gun shall fire - the Bell ring Daboll shriek and Holmes growl - must be arranged by you and I suppose the matter of precedency of sound will have to be considered as to the effect remaining on the ear and its influence in judging of the next report - one grand desiderata must be to have men whose sense of hearing is perfect & judgements clear let me hear your views ere the matter comes officially before you - as also as to your engagements Daboll pleading hurry in desire to return to America -

I am ever | Yours sincerely | William Pigott
