Faraday to William Pole   11 November 1863

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | Nov 11 / 63

My dear Pole

I cannot let two letters of yours go unacknowledged. Even if for the kindness only - and I have nothing else to refer to at present save this - What is to us nowadays the true meaning of the word Laboratory? does it (by the Act & Charter) shut out Tyndalls part of the Place of work & research or admit it? I do not suppose it matters much1.

Ever yours | M. Faraday

This refers to a special meeting of the Managers which discussed and approved the future direction of research in the Royal Institution. RI MM, 21 November 1863, 12: 31-3.
