James Dickson to Faraday   20 February 1864

Mr. Dickson presents his compliments to Dr. Faraday and begs to state that he regrets extremely, after having unintentionally disappointed Dr Faraday and other gentlemen he should have written a letter to Dr. Faraday the other day1 which induced him to put himself to the great inconvenience of being present at 9 Conduit Street on Thursday Evening last when Mr. Dickson failed to produce the Electric light2 which he hoped would have been successfully exhibited.

Mr. Dickson especially regrets the occurrence in as much as the state of Dr. Faraday’s health causes him to feel that Dr. Faraday was put to great personal inconvenience through being out during the evening. Mr. Dickson also regrets having similarly inconvenienced those gentlemen who accompanied Dr. Faraday to the Institute on the same evening
