My dear Mr. Cooke

Though I could not come to see your treasures I can still thank you for the kindness that gave me the opportunity - but I was too unwell and yesterday was a very bad day for men in my age & state1.

Give my kindest remembrances to Mrs. & the Misses Cookes2 and to your fine young men3[.]

Gent.Mag., 1864, 216: 680 reported that the temperature on 5 April 1864 was 42°F at midday and that there was rain, hail and snow.
Elizabeth Harriet Cooke, née Eglinton (1785–1882, ODNB under E.W. Cooke). Cooke’s mother. His sisters are listed in the 1861 census. TNA RG9/17, f.29, p.59.
That is Cooke’s sons, Conrad William Cooke and George Edward Cooke (1842–1916, Munday (1996), 384).
