Faraday to Peter Henry Berthon   12 May 1864

Royal Institution | 12 May 1864.

My dear Sir

The examinations of optical apparatus now (& often) going on;- with the inconvenience & even unfitness of any place in London for that purpose which is in possession & under the command of the Trinity house;- together with rumours that I hear of changes to be made at the Trinity Wharf Blackwall, induce me to remind you, that I some years ago said what a very fit & proper thing it would be if the Trinity House could supply this want under their own hands & of their own power. I therefore take the liberty of asking whether such a[n] opportunity presents itself now.

Ever My dear Sir | Very Truly Yours | M. Faraday

P.H. Berthon Esqr | &c &c &c
