SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, | WASHINGTON, U.S.A., | JUNE 1, 1864.

With the view of facilitating the intercourse between the scientific men of America and of other parts of the world, the Smithsonian Institution proposes to print a list of persons known by it to be engaged in original investigations in any branch of science, or occupied more or less in scientific pursuits. To this end, it respectfully invites those who approve of the object, and are interested in its success, to fill up the blanks in the present sheet, and return it either by mail, prepaid, or through one of the agents of the Smithsonian Institution (Dr. Felix Flügel1, Leipsic; Frederic Müller2, Amsterdam; Gustav Bossange & Co3., Paris; Wm. Wesley4, 2 Queen’s Head Passage, Paternoster Row, London.)

The Institution desires to procure copies of accounts of original investigations in science, and in return will present an equivalent in its own publications.
