I hold myself deeply indebted to you for the fine portrait of that admirable woman your mother¹. I rejoice to look at her resemblance & think of your account of her. I feel a happiness in her welfare & happiness[.] Long may she be a delight to you & all her friends[s.]

I am very well in health but not well toned in spirits - failing memory interferes greatly with mental enjoyments - but I have abundant ground for rejoicing Ever most truly yours.
