Faraday to Benjamin Vincent   12 August 1864

12 August 1864 | The Green | Hampton Court

My dear friend

I write to you from here trusting to be in time for the post and yet fearing a little for my thoughts are slow - however I know that my dear wife wrote to you yesterday or the day before. Your letter was a great comfort to us & settled my mind much. Many things had arisen to make me anxious but whether I dreamt some of them about Dr. B. Jones or whether they were real I am hardly sure. At present we have here for the first time since their return from Scotland Mary1 & her sister. I am much comforted by the talk about various things and hope to a great heap of imaginary matter removed from my thoughts next week.

At the R. Institution things proceed I hope pretty well. We await your coming home to help choose a carpet2 but I trust all things will be ready in time. I think I am right in supposing that you will be in town Evening of the 15th but I shall wait until I know you are available before I order patterns of carpets in[.]

All here is pretty well or at least I hope so but I will not pretend to write you news of which I expect you will hear plenty from other and better sources. I write to be remembered by you and those with whom you are. I have heard so much from Mary & Louisa of friends in the North that the items of account sadly clash together - but still on the whole the accounts are good in character & I trust all is happy with you.

I long for your coming home - and have the full assurance it will bring happiness to all & not take away any of that belonging to those whom you will leave[.] Kindest love & remembrances to Mr. & Mrs. Sandeman, Mr. Moir, Mr. Cowan3 & all as if individually remembered.

Ever Yours Very affectionately | M. Faraday
