Faraday to John Barlow   10 September 1864

The Green | Hampton Court | Sat 10th Septr. / 64

My dear Friend

I forget what was the last linking act of communication with you but I think it was a letter from kind Mrs Barlow to Jeannie. I have been barren in acts but not in thoughts for I very often think about you & your patience and set you before myself as an example. How very numerous are the exhortations in the book we both respect to patience & the waiting for the hope that is there set before us.

We have been for a couple of weeks at the sea side (Yarmouth) and enjoyed the weather & the circumstances. Having returned home I renew my desire of communicating with you & have thought of how to see you - but the probabilities or the how to do it do not grow up at present. The vigour required to act with decision does not return & replace the weariness & slowness of old age - so in the mean time I write a few lines of remembrance and hope for the future.

I think I heard our vigorous Tyndall speak of his intention to see you and I hope that will turn up. He has been in great danger riding on an avalanche but I trust you will hear the account from him. He is now very well.

We are getting through the repairs which have been very prolonged this time1.

Ever My dear Barlow | Yours | M. Faraday

Revd. John Barlow MA. | &c &c &c

I thought my dear wife was writing to you - but she just wishes me to add her love & remembrances with mine to you and your dear wife & fitting companion in life & all its circumstances - think of us together and join Jeannie in with us. | Yours | MF
