Edward Frankland to Faraday   1 December 1864

[Royal Institution embossed letterhead] | Dec.1st 1864.

My dear Mr. Faraday

I am glad to be able to inform you that Mr. Tingle1 - a gentleman recommended by Dr. Hofmann,- has offered his services, as volunteer or non-salaried Assistant, in the Chemical Laboratory of the Institution, in the place of Mr. Bowdler2 who left us at the close of last Session. I have tested Mr. Tingle’s capabilities as a research Assistant and am satisfied with them. If you agree with me in considering his services desirable, I propose to retain him on the same conditions as those under which Mr. Bowdler worked for us during 1863-4.

Believe me | My dear Mr. Faraday | ever yours sincerely | E. Frankland
