Summerfield House nr Birmingham | 3rd January 1865
M. Faraday Esqr:
My dear Sir,
It is a long time for a man who is in his 83rd year to look forward to the meeting of the British Association2, but I write thus early to secure your company if our lives are spared as long, & I propose to invite Sir David Brewster & my son the M.D.3 & we shall find accommodation for these three. We look upon you as the greatest man of the three, but as Sir David is, I suppose, about 14 years older than you, we propose putting him on the first floor. My friend M. Claudet4 will be content to visit my eldest son5, who resides in a better house than mine & lives at a moderate distance.
Mrs. Chance6 who is in good health for a lady of her years, would be much mortified were you not to be resident with us, as she has a very lively recollection of your attractions. She unites with me in the kindest regards to you & Mrs. Faraday.
Commending you & yours to the mercy of God through the work of the Lord Jesus finished on the cross for sinners, as such,
I remain, My dear Sir, Yours very sincerely | R.L. Chance
